A personal trainer is only effective if you choose the RIGHT one. Check out these 5 things you should be looking for when choosing the person to help guide you toward your goals.

1) They’re Certified

Just because somebody has a nice physique doesn’t mean they’re a personal trainer. Sure, they’ve found results that work for them. But that doesn’t mean they know how to come up with a plan for other people to achieve the same results. Ensure the trainer is a professional. Don’t be afraid to ask for their credentials.

2) They Use Science

Working out is a science. Depending on the type of goal you’re trying to achieve, there are calculated moves you should be making. That’s why “one-size-fits-all” isn’t a solution when it comes to personal training.

3) They Create a PERSONAL Program

Too many “trainers” google pre-packaged workout plans and print them for all of their clients, trying to sell it as “personal.” If your trainer can’t explain how the plan is personally tailored to you, they probably didn’t make it personally for you.

4) They Motivate You

Remember, the personal trainer who looks best on paper may not be the best person for YOU. Just because they have a ton of qualifications doesn’t mean they automatically jive with your personality. You need somebody that has the qualifications AND is personable, motivating you to do your best and want to show up every day.

In addition, look for somewhere that makes you feel welcomed and in-the-know from the moment you walk through the door. You should never be left wondering “Where should I go now? Where will I meet my trainer? What happens when I show up?” It should be an experience where you feel comfortable from the minute you walk in the door.

5) They Have a Flexible Schedule

Life moves fast. Make sure your trainer has a schedule that meshes well with yours. Some days will be easier to make it than others, and sometimes life shifts on a dime. Find somebody that can work with you to work out on YOUR time.
